What to Expect
First, we prepare your tooth for the dental crown. We take off a small part of the tooth's outer layer. This makes room so the crown fits well.
Next, we take a copy of the prepared tooth. We use our digital scanning technology. The copy is a model used to make a custom crown. It matches your tooth's shape and size.
Your permanent crown is made in a dental laboratory. While you wait, we place a temporary crown over the prepared tooth. It protects the tooth. It also keeps the tooth looking and working well until your final crown is ready.
Skilled dental technicians use the copy to make your custom crown. They choose the colour, shape and size with care. The crown blends in with your natural teeth. This will take about two weeks.
When your final crown is ready, you come back to have it placed. Your dentist takes off the temporary crown and cleans the tooth. Then they carefully fit and adjust the permanent crown. They check how it fits, how your bite lines up, and how it looks. Only then do they cement the crown in place for good.
After the crown is cemented, we make any changes that are needed. This makes sure your bite lines up and feels comfortable, and you are welcome to tell us how it feels.

At Adelaide Dental, a crown on one tooth ranges from about $1,500 to $1,970*. The high end includes a core under the crown, and both include the lab fee.
